Valentine's Day Part 2

Amanda and I took today off due to some appointments that were spaced out over the course of the day. When we finished up, we decided to go to the mall briefly to pick some floss up. While we were there, we each took the opportunity to expand on our Valentine's gifts. Both of us found inexpensive things we had really been hoping to get each other. It was fun, the new stuffed toys are sitting on our bookshelves, and life is good.

Early Valentine's Day

Amanda and I both have tomorrow off due to dentist appointments, so I suggested that we celebrate Valentine's Day early. Originally the plan was to go out for supper tomorrow night. However, tomorrow night is the last Scrabble night we'll have for a while because her parents will be away. As a result, we celebrated tonight.

Amanda gave me some really cool yarn from Blue Moon Fiber Arts, and I gave her a necklace. We had supper at Mr. Mike's and had a really good early Valentine's Day! So far we're two for two with good Valentine's Days. Hopefully we can keep the streak going for many more years.

Elton John Was Amazing

After Amanda returned home from work and showered, we drove to Mr. Mike's to meet up with her sister for supper before Elton John's concert.  To ease the parking issue, we decided to drop off her vehicle and drive together in mine.  So the three of us and one of our would-not-be camerawoman's friends piled into my small car and parked a few blocks away from the concert hall.

The line stretched quite a ways down the block and we had to wait.  It was chilly and drizzly, but Amanda and I kept everyone's spirits up by taking a photo!

Amanda was dressed in layers -- her t-shirt, hoodie, and the outer shell of my winter coat.  The barbed wire fence behind us is not a prison -- just the parking lot for the Telus building downtown.

Once we made it inside and found our seats (34th row on the floor), we decided to try for another photo while waiting for the concert to start.

...this is one of only two decent photos we took out of a dozen attempts there.  Either I was wholly in the frame and Amanda was hidden, or the entire photo was out of focus...

The concert started right on time at 8pm without any opening act.  We were fully expecting to have an opening act perform for an hour and only seeing Elton John for an hour.  ...We were *completely* wrong.  He performed for over two hours, and the concert was absolutely incredible!

Highlights:

  • Rocket Man (my mouth hurt afterward from smiling so big for so long)
  • Crocodile Rock
  • Songs from The Lion King for his encore
  • Lengthy piano riffs
Lowlights:
  • Far too many people with active cell phones
  • Too many people getting up and down in the middle of songs
Elton was incredible, he certainly knew how to put on a show, and it was an amazing evening all around!

Amanda, best Valentine's Day gift ever!  <3

Moonlit Reflections

If you've been paying attention to this blog and the photos I've been posting, you may have noticed a trend over the past two weeks.  I like shiny surfaces that show Amanda and me together.  :-)

I took this photo on Saturday night (Feb. 11) after going for our Valentine's supper early.  We had intended to wear dressier clothes, but the weather ended up being much cooler than it was earlier in the day and we decided not to.

One of these days in the future (hopefully near future, but we'll see), Amanda and I will get all spiffed up to go out, and we'll be posting a photo of a very dressy Kissing Couple of Grande Prairie out on the town.

Scheduling

Most of the time my schedule matches up fairly well with Amanda's.  Because I have Sunday-Monday off every week (as well as alternate Saturdays), it means that if I go out to Grande Prairie for the weekend, I can stay all day Sunday and leave Monday morning when Amanda goes to work.

My short weekends don't work quite as well for Amanda visiting Tumbler Ridge.  On those weekends she has to choose between being in Tumbler Ridge all day Saturday while I work (which may be a nice day free from doing anything, but can also get boring), or coming out late Saturday afternoon, and staying in town less than 24 hours.

This weekend, I'm heading out to Grande Prairie.  As part of my master plan for Valentine's Day, I had hoped that Amanda would be able to come to Tumbler Ridge this weekend.  However, fate intervened 31 years ago and caused her sister to be born.  As a result, I'll be going to Grande Prairie after work tomorrow for the weekend.

My original plan was to take Tuesday and Wednesday off from work, have Amanda come out here for the weekend, and then surprise her after work on Valentine's Day by showing up in Grande Prairie with flowers and a reservation for supper.

I know the plan had a few issues.  First off, surprising someone who lives three hours away is always risky.  Second, showing up dressed up and spiffy, carrying flowers, and ready to take her for supper might not go over quite so well when she just got off work and was wanting some downtime and a shower.

On the other hand, I think it might've been a nice surprise...

*Sigh*  Maybe next year...
